"The enormous quarry which towers above Llanberis closed in 1969, marking the end of almost 200 years of slate extraction. In the 70s and 80s, rock climbers colonised the quarry in search of new routes on this unique medium.

These days, the climbers are still to seen and walkers too enjoy exploring this awe-inspiring and culturally significant site. This photograph shows one of many birches which have sprung up over the years as nature slowly reclaims this scarred landscape.
